Very Important Civil Liberties Laws Every US Citizen Should Know About

The law is the glue which holds the nation together. Without law we would all descend into anarchy and chaos would be unavoidable. The law is the most important human invention and without it, we wouldn’t be nearly as advanced as we are today. It is imperative that every person knows their rights and what they can and cannot do.

The USA is an enormous country, it has over 320 Million people and is very ethnically diverse.

Because of that many conflicts arise on a daily basis. People discriminate other people based on the color of their skin, based on their sexual preferences, disabilities, and many other different things. Something like that should never be allowed to exist.

Because of the discrimination certain laws were written, and if they are broken, severe punishment awaits.

The first law everyone should know about is the ”’Fair housing act”.

This particular law prohibits anyone from refusing to sell, rent or make housing available to another person because of the color of their skin, national origin, religion, sex, familial status or handicap. It also allows people with special needs to readjust their homes in a way which helps them live comfortably. So if you ever had any unpleasantries involving any of these actions mentioned above because you’ve been discriminated against, know that the law is on your side.

The second law you should be familiar with is ”Same-Sex Marriage Law”.

Homosexual people feel like they can open up to the world and express their sexuality much easier than ever before. The number of gay people hasn’t changed, but the number of openly gay people has. In the past couple of years, the world became much more supportive and tolerant of gay people that they don’t feel the need to hide it anymore. The fact that this is happening is great; we are all becoming much better people, and we’re trying to respect everybody’s choices and preferences. But even though the world has started to change in that aspect there are still quite a large number of people who are intolerant. People who are in love, no matter the sex, should be allowed to marry and because of that, a few states in the USA have allowed same-sex marriages. These states are the state of California and the state of Massachusetts.

Medical attention should be given to anyone who needs it regardless of their status, nationality, sex, race or anything else. Because of that Detainee Basic Medical Care Act has been proposed by the New Jersey senator Robert Menendez. If this law passes, every detainee held by US immigration will be given adequate medical care. This is a huge deal.

If this law passes, we will prove that we are not animals but compassionate human beings who care for others despite our differences. We should all aim to better ourselves and be there for others who are in need. There are many more of these laws you should know about, so if you found this interesting, make sure you find the rest.
